Most people in Jakarta loves a good Nasi Padang because of the strong flavors and very affordable price for a huge portion. You can also add more sauce for free, it's no wonder everyone loves it! Here's a newcomer in that area called Padang Merdeka and they've opened at Kota Tua. It's a newborn local brand, so you won't find it elsewhere. It's kind of too bad that they are not allowed to put a signage tho, since it's the general rule of Kota Tua. Got a bit of difficulties trying to promote the restaurant, so for you who has read this post, please do spread the word and location! They're located at Jl. Lada No. 1, right across of BNI Kota Tua before the station. Exact position is on the right side of the road and when you find a red gate that says "Lada No. 1", go straight in and you'll find Padang Merdeka there. Don't worry about parking lots, just go to the closed gate, if you said you're going to eat there, they'll gladly open them for you and let me tell you, the space inside is pretty huge!
Upon entering, you'd definitely be amazed and thought that the food will cost a fortune, since the design is pretty modern and all. Don't worry tho, the price is just as affordable as other Padang restaurants you'd find, trust me!
The ambiance is of course, very Indonesian, especially since they're at Kota Tua, which is like the symbol of Indonesia. Not wanting to taint that, Padang Merdeka decided to blend into the Indonesian decor. Somehow I have a hunch that this will be a tourist spot!
The Indonesian heritage, Batik can be found almost everywhere!

RENDANG SAPI IDR 20K
Super rich flavor and thick sauce! If you're familiar with Padang then you'd pretty much be able to guess the taste. This is a bit more rich and spicy though!
KIKIL GULAI IDR 20K
Too bad the kikil is a bit hard to chew. Maybe because the size is too big?
DENDENG BALADO IDR 20K
The champion!! Even though the chili on top might scare you off, it's actually not that spicy! I'm not kidding and the dendeng is super tender. You need to try this!
GULAI OTAK IDR 20K
No way am I trying that! Just..no. Yes, I'm too chicken to try it! Laugh all you want but I'm not touching it..lol!
AYAM GORENG IDR 19K
The chicken is actually pretty common but I'm glad it's not oily at all! What makes this much more amazing is that sauce on the side there! Tastes sweet and spicy and very unpredictable..nice!

Yet again the sauce takes the spotlight here! Also taste somewhat sweet and spicy but unlike the one before. Pretty unique if you ask me and this is also one of my faves here!

The taste of the petai is really absorbed into the whole plate! Even when I only ate the shrimp, I can still taste the petai..too bad I'm not a fan of it!

Personally, we love everything here, too bad it's at Kota Tua, which is not far but the traffic is bad. The chances of us coming back is there but only when we're coincidentally in the area. Well, congratulations on the opening at 31st of March 2017!
