SOFIA THE GUNAWARMAN JAKARTA


Anyone been here before? Not me! I'm a first timer and this is because of an invitation as well. Reason might be because from upfront it look super luxurious and expensive but once you get inside, it's actually pretty casual. It's just a classic elegant design, let's check it out!



So inside The Gunawarman there's also a bakery and pastry brand called Kitte other than Sofia. All the cakes and breads displayed here are all from Kitte and it's a different brand actually, they even have separate Instagrams. Didn't try any tho but would love to some other time!



Behind Kitte's displayed goods is the bar.








These are the type of tables and seats they have. Classic elegant filled with blue, brown, and gold!




Did you know that the chef here is Chef Justina Harjono? She's also the one who made all these menus that we're gonna taste and all is made to share for 4 people. From snacks, starters, mains, to desserts. I don't really know if this is a set menu or you can order a la carte for it..sorry!




Milk toast


CHICKEN LIVER MOUSSE
So actually, the milk toast above is to be eaten with this. At first, I have no idea what this is and it doesn't taste like liver at all. I only known after I've eaten it and was a bit taken aback..lol! If you leave it, it'll turn into a deep reddish color, so don't be surprised!




SHRIMP DONUT
There's also jalapeno mayo and avocado in this. The shrimp is also already made into patty with all it's secret seasoning mixed in!



POPCORN
There's shoyu butter mixed in this, so the taste is pretty new for me. Plus a bit of parmesan powder is also mixed into this. Cause a little bit of cheese always makes it better!



That was all the snacks and keep in mind that it was meant for 4 people. Don't worry, it's all portioned, so that you won't over or under eat when you reached the dessert!


Now onto the starters!
CURLY KALE
Topped with caesar dressing and crispy chicken skin with brioche crumbs. This is superb and you can just taste the freshness of the kale. Healthy and delicious!



Poached egg with runny yolk as a finishing touch!


CHILLED SALMON CONFIT
When it's salmon, it's kinda hard to fail, no? The salmon here is half cooked and is sort of meant to be a salad like. What's unique is when you eat it with the grapes, do try it out!




SPICY SUNBATHING PRAWN
Not as spicy as I thought actually. It's like the usual grilled prawn in a seafood restaurant but it's pretty good.




Next up is the mains!
CHARRED CAULIFLOWER
For the sauce, they use Greek yogurt and basil, so it's a bit sour. The cauliflower itself is unseasoned but has this smokey taste as it is charred.



PAN-ROASTED CHICKEN
The sauce is made of shoyu-truffle butter and the green puree is edamame. It's also mixed with baby potatoes and onsen eggs!


The chicken is super tender even though it's the breast and not thigh but it's a bit too salty, even for me..lol!




6 HOUR BOLOGNESE
I'm usually not a big fan of bolognese or any tomato based but this one is actually good! It's been a long time since I've had a good bolognese sauce that doesn't taste overwhelming like this. Plus there's a lot of meat in it to balance the sauce and spaghetti!




GRILLED OX TONGUE
I was expecting a lot from this cause it looks good. Too bad the meat is kinda hard to chew, the seasoning was perfect too. If only they were more careful in preparing the meat.




Last is dessert!
TIRAMISU
This is called tiramisu but it's not your ordinary tiramisu. It's made of honey panna cotta and topped with burnt meringue with a hint of coffee flavor!




PETIT FOUR
I don't really know if this will actually be served in this amount, since it was an invitation cause there's a lot here, even for 4 people. It's all the usual predictable taste tho!
