Ready for some luxurious lunch? Since it's a special occasion, which is our beloved Indonesia's Independence day, we got a chance to celebrate it in, of course, an Indonesian restaurant but not just anywhere, it's 1945 at Fairmont hotel! So psyched to be able to celebrate in a restaurant with a name that resembles our Independence day as well! :D
Guess you could say that this place is build as appreciation to our country, since the whole place is even decorated with the red and white of Indonesia!
Who would've guessed that red chili can turn into a pretty bouquet for decorations? Lol! It's pretty and you can get the feeling of Indonesia!
Cotton flower, my recent favorite flower! Don't know why, but I'm just obsessed with it! I used to love roses but ever since I saw a cotton flower, it became my number one flower that I'll look for! Here they used cotton flower AND white roses, I'm pleased! :p
Though they adapted Indonesian theme, it's not traditional and old like how we pictured it, instead it's super classy and modern! You'll definitely be left in awe!
There's only one thing that I find weird though. This sliding door, which made it looked like a Japanese restaurant. They must've have a reason behind this but I just don't know why!
After being seated, the server will put a single petal of rose in front of you as a sign that the seat is taken!
So let the tasting begin!
FRUITY LIME GRANITA - MULBERRY IDR 80K
Home made syrup topped with icy lime granita.
Love the pretty presentation and how the color really suited the Indonesian theme! The shaved ice was very smooth and it's lime flavored! Say goodbye to a boring ice! There're 4 choices of flavors that you can choose for this granita; tamarind, lychee, passion fruit, and this, go wild!
TELENG PUNCH
Drink made out of a teleng flower and soda water! Trust me, it's also the first time I heard the name..lol! After a little bit of a lazy research, I found that the flower is also blue colored, just like this drink. The sad truth is that to me, this drink is the least appealing with it's simple appearance and taste, though it's the most unique. The taste is a bit killed by the soda water, so you can only taste sweet with a hint of flowery aroma!
The server here all worn Indonesia's traditional clothing AKA Kebaya! Who ever said that Kebaya is not pretty must be out of their minds! I find the server here very beautiful with Kebaya!
Crackers anyone? A mandatory snack for Indonesian cuisine!
SATE - CHICKEN OYSTER IDR 100K
Grilled seasoned meat on bamboo skewers.
Did you know that chicken oyster is the best part of the chicken meat?! It's located on either side of a chicken's backbone and known for it's tenderness! Other than the fact that this is a fine-dining cuisine, I now understand why they boldly priced chicken skewers IDR 100K! Probably the best chicken skewers I've ever had, especially when combined with their extraordinary peanut sauce!
PRAWN FRITTERS IDR 70K
TRICOLOUR YAM FRIES IDR 70K
REMPEYEK CRACKERS IDR 50K
My favorite would be the purple yam fries, since it's so freakin' soft! Second to that would be the fritters but the best is still the peanut sauce. You gotta try their super smooth peanut sauce! It's like anything would be perfect to dip into it! Fyi, I don't know about the portioning, since this was just a food tasting and all the sides were combined to one plate, so normally the portion is smaller.
SATE - LAMB TENDERLOIN IDR 150K
Grilled seasoned meat on bamboo skewers.
Another skewer, they have 3 choices of skewers you see. The other one is wagyu beef, sounds interesting but it turns out, the beef was no match to the lamb and chicken, cause the beef was a bit to hard for me. Comparing the beef with this tender lamb, of course I'd choose the lamb! Still, the best was the chicken!
A close up look on today's highlight...peanut sauce! :D
FOIE GRAS DUCK TIMLO IDR 140K
Spring rolls served in duck broth with vermicelli, poached duck egg, pan seared duck breast and foie gras.
This is my first time liking foie gras! Usually it has this sandy texture that I don't really know how to explain but this one's totally smooth! It's like it's made out of beancurd! They need to improve the consistency of the egg though, cause mine wasn't a perfect creamy yolk, while the others had it! :(
The duck broth was another plus point, though be warned to not put too much, cause it's really salty!
When it comes to Indonesian foods, fried rice is a mandatory dish! Here, they have 3 varieties of fried rice; lobster, wagyu and kampung. We got to try the wagyu and kampung, which are both delicious in their own way!
Kampung style Indonesian traditional fried rice with egg and chicken oysters.
NASI GORENG WAGYU IDR 160K
Fried rice made with black-and-white rice, tender wagyu, infused with terasi shrimp paste.
Next up is some proteins! Yeap, it's time for meats! Let me just tell ya that from the duck, chicken to wagyu, it's all so tender and flavorful! Totally love all of it, it's just left to your preference! Now I'll shut up and just let you enjoy the awesome foods!
Crispy fried duck confit with Asian greens and sweet galangal dressing.
RUJAK CHICKEN IDR 280K
Boneless baby chicken with a side of baby spinach and watercress dressed in spicy rujak sauce.
STEAK 1945
Tender dry aged (45 days) wagyu steak grilled with 1945 kecap base barbecue sauce, with choice of:
MARBLING 46 IDR 680K
MARBLING 78 IDR 800K
Some of the more traditional and more Indonesian!
Richly flavorful wagyu sous vide cooked in coconut milk base rendang paste spicy.
TONGSENG LAMB CHOP IDR 320K
Sous vide lamb chop that is deep fried and served over stir fried vegetables in tongseng sauce.
TAPE CHEESECAKE IDR 80K
Creamy smooth cheesecake infused with the distinctive sweet-sour flavor of fermented tape, served with vanilla bean sauce.
Okay, you've heard of cheesecakes but can you imagine a cheesecake combined with Indonesia's tape? For those who don't know, tape tasted like a sweet rice wine or so I think. :p Well, I personally already like tape in the first place and I do think this is sort of weird but I don't hate it! It's just different and the vanilla sauce definitely helped quite a lot!
FROZEN SRIKAYA SOUFFLÉ IDR 80K
A decadent cream soufflé wrapped around a frozen srikaya center, served with pandan-flavored glutinous rice.
I love souffle and I love srikaya, so having them combined into 1 is like a dream! Out of the 3 desserts we had, this is definitely my favorite! Not really interested with the pandan glutinous rice, all I need is the srikaya souffle and I'm all good! :D
NASTAR CAKE IDR 80K
Golden pineapple sponge cake topped with crisp butter crumble.
This really tasted like an actual nastar, minus the crispy cookie crust, which I think is not a really good idea. The beauty of nastar is the crispy cookie crust, at least that's how it is to me! Not saying it tasted bad, just not what I prefer!
Now you know where to take your special guest that likes Indonesian cuisine but you want to take them to a fancier place! Although I personally think the beauty of Indonesian cuisine is the fact that they're very affordable and doesn't require you to dress up..lol! Yet I do appreciate how the took Indonesian cuisine into a higher level, showing that Indonesian cuisine can also be fancy! Fyi, their grand opening will be on 1st October 2015, so be sure to anticipate it!
