Last Wednesday, we went to Lotte Shopping Avenue and planned on trying a Korean Smoke Barbeque Bistro, The Ori, yet sadly it was closed. I don't know whether it's closed for good or moved or something, all I know is that I was looking forward to their delicious smoked duck that people have been talking about. So, to save the day, we decided to try MAD instead, cause I heard that this place is really popular right now and I'm gonna find out why! And that's how we ended up here, MAD stands for Modern Asian Diner, it's located between Bonchon and Cinema XXI. From the outside, you might think that it's a small little diner, oh but you're so wrong cause inside it's HUMONGOUS!
When you stepped in, the first thing you'll see is this grand, luxurious bar. There are wine glasses and glass bottles here and there. I think they might even have a complete collection of wine and spirits.
Across of the bar, there's this unique orange room where you can see on the walls are Koi fishes; a signature oriental fish that represent luck or fortune, but they can also represent personal strength or overcoming adversity, they're also loved for decorations with the many varieties of colors and patterns.
It's an open kitchen here, you can actually see the chefs preparing your delicious dishes. The kitchen is right across your table, so while waiting for your food, why don't you entertain yourself by watching the professional chefs cook? That certainly made me hungrier amused!
Here, the furniture, walls, and decorations are so colorful yet they mix really well. It's playful, unique and elegant all in one place! By the way, the pink room you see below is reserved for VIPs, so if you're interested, be sure to make a reservation first!
MAD offers a wide varieties of Asian cuisines!! Yup, that includes dimsum as well! Here are some of the things I tried.
CRISPY BEANCURD ROLL WITH SHRIMP (3 PCS) IDR 22,8K
The beancurd is really crispy and you can just taste the shrimp with each bite. Sometimes I find this kind of dimsum where they're so stingy with the shrimp and all I could taste is the oily fried beancurd, so I was really satisfied with these ones. Too bad there's only 3 pieces. :(

Best Siew Mai ever! 'nough said! Nothing can describe it better.
BLACK BEAN JAPANESE MOMOIRO PORK BELLY KATSU CLAYPOT RICE IDR 108K
MAD is actually famous for their claypots so it's certainly a must try! The one I tried is well, the one with pork of course! The taste was a bit bland though, but nothing a few spices won't fix. The portion is huge, I wasn't able to finish it cause it's just two people, so I recommend if you eat this with 3 people or more. The highlight of this dish is definitely the PORK BELLY!! It's super delicious, crispy skin and juicy meat, and there's certainly a generous amount of it too, perfect!
SPICY MISO MOROIMO PORK BELLY MINI MANTAU BURGERS IDR 80K
Charcoal grilled tender pork belly glazed with spicy miso, garden greens, mozzarella cheese, tomato & avocado, in mantau buns.
There's a huge slice of pork belly in it, so that kept me satisfied. Even though it's said in the description that the pork belly is glazed with spicy miso, for me who doesn't really like spicy foods, it's still tolerable. The mantau was so soft and the greens, mozzarella, and pork gives a rich taste that just burst out heaven to your taste buds!
OREO-SESAME & MARSHMALLOW CREME PARFAIT IDR 45K
Crushed oreo, black sesame ice cream, banana, tempura glutinous rice dumpling.
The plating of this dessert just blew me away! It's so unique and playful, the taste surely did not disappoint as well! The tempura glutinous rice dumpling surprisingly goes really well with the ice cream. The black dirt-like decoration is actually the crushed Oreo. Everything in this plate are just beautiful and delicious.
The service here is good, they're all full of smiles and ready to serve. The price matches the taste, great foods comes with great price too, I guess. Overall, I had an amazing time here, I even got a 20% discount cause it just opened. This is a suitable place to hang out with friends or go on a date or just spending some quality time with your beloved family. I for one is surely gonna be back to this place for more of their awesome foods! I AM MAD FOR MAD!
