GOEMON JAPANESE RESTAURANT

Can't help but be a little bit too excited when we went to an authentic Japanese restaurant! Maybe it's because we never been to Japan? :') So it's a bit of sad but eating at an authentic restaurant is like giving us a hint of what it's like there..lol! Goemon here is one of an old authentic Japanese restaurant in Jakarta, located at Wisma Keiai, which used to be known as Kyoei Prince. Goemon has been here even before the name became Wisma Keiai..lol!

You can find the entrance at the 3rd floor of the building. Might be confusing with all those Japanese kanji..lol! Actually, this building is filled with Japanese stuff, from restaurants to Japanese tour and travels, so it's a mini paradise for Japanese lovers! :p

Not that spacey but it's comfy enough, even though the place is pretty crowded!

They also have tatami tables!! Remember to take off your shoes before entering, kay? Slippers are provided!

YAKI SHISAMO (GRILLED PREGNANT FISH) IDR 48K
First time trying a pregnant fish..lol! For the shisamo they have 2 types, grilled and deep fried. Though they recommend the deep fried one, since it's crispy and stuff, we went for the grilled one, just because it's 'healthier'. (Notice the quotation mark? Lol!)

For first timers like me, just fyi, you can literally eat the whole thing from head to toe. What I love about this one here is that it doesn't smell fishy at all, even without the lime! Guess you could also call this a guilty pleasure..since you're eating a pregnant fish..oh well~

BABY POTATO BACON WITH GARLIC IDR 50K
Generous amount of bacon!! :D Hence the price, though the potatoes are just typical baby potatoes, what made them different is the super delicious garlic bacon!! Portion-wise..it's practically an appetizer..lol!

JAGAIMO CHEESE DANGO IDR 44K
Wondering what this is? Well, it's potato pancake with cheese! Anak Jajan is the one that ordered this and it turns out to be good! Though it might be a bit pricey for such a small portion. If you still can't grasp what this is, just imagine a texture fluffier than a pancake and filled with cheese!!

BUTA KARAAGE IDR 58K
Can't really find anything wrong from this dish..I mean, anything deep fried would taste great and this is pork! What more can I say?

TORI NAMBAN (FRIED CHICKEN WITH TAR TAR SAUCE) IDR 68K
Though I'd prefer this than the buta karaage, since this has tasty mayo all over a super sized chicken. Yet, if I had to compare this with Fujin, I'd choose Fujin, since Fujin's fried chicken is much more flavorful. The plus point here however is that it's not that oily!

Here in Goemon, they have set menus for 2 pax and only cost IDR 90K++. You'll get 1 donburi and 1 udon/soba and for this menu we chose the Curry Udon!

Though it's a mini version of the a la carte, you can't really call this small. Taste was good enough with quite generous amount of chicken, too bad the curry is a bit too watery. Could be perfect if it was thicker!

For the donburi, we obviously went with pork called Buta Kakuni Don. It's actually good but since they implemented an authentic taste, you can really expect a strong flavor. To me this is just so-so, I guess?

Nothing chili powder and shoyu can't fix though!

Totally interested in coming back to this building to try other Japanese restaurant here! I bet they're all authentic!

  1. Looks delicious! I think I can come up with some recipes to re-create it. However, I can't take pictures as nice as Cindy... bummer!
