OKU JAPANESE RESTAURANT - HOTEL KEMPINSKI JAKARTA

Welcome back to Lulabyspoon! :) This time we're gonna talk about a superb Japanese restaurant. Literally everything is amazing, though it might be pricey but I can safely say it's worth every penny! The name is Oku and it's in Kempinski Hotel Jakarta!

Oku in Japanese means a sense of penetrating the layers of an onion. What they want to imply is that through the layers they will become better and better. The icon here is this bird below, don't really know why though?

Interior's pretty amazing and minimalist. Though it doesn't look like it, there are a lot of families that dine here not just the youngsters, it's definitely because of the food!

OKU KARAGE IDR 110K
Yes, pricey for only 4 pieces of these black chicken but trust me, this tastes bombastic! Have never tried karage this good and what swept me away is the unique taste. It's not the usual crispy ordinary karage, it's less crispy with a lot of juice, so with each bite you'll get a splash of that juiciness of the chicken! Yum!!

OKU ABURI SALMON ROLL IDR 180K
Well, for a 6 pieces of heavenly sushi the price is definitely worth it! Tastes beyond amazing with perfectly cooked salmon drizzled with incredible sauce, crazy good!

UNAGI IDR 95K
3 pieces of charcoal grilled unagi on a cracker plate, very unique and pretty! I guess for unagi this price is pretty reasonable, plus it tastes superb and dolled up with edible flowers!

KAISEN CHAWAN MUSHI IDR 70K
This is actually from the bento set but there's also an ala carte for this. One of the best chawan mushi I've ever tasted and the fillings are also generous. There's prawn, mushroom, and chicken, totally worth the price!

Here's their bento sets! They have 3 choices and we got the bento number 3!

BENTO 3 IDR 600K++
In this bento, there's the chawan mushi from before, green salad, spicy salmon roll, assorted tempura, ajitama (organic egg smoked rice straw), miso soup, tsukemono (Japanese pickle), the main course (you can choose either Oku Chirashi Don or Truffle Gyu Don), and last, green tea pudding. I guess it's worth the price seeing as you got a whole set from appetizer to dessert!

The best Truffle Gyu Don ever! Somehow I've grown to like truffles, since a lot of restaurants like to use it. I used to hate how it smells but now, I'm totally into it. The beef here is also crazy tender and there's a generous amount of it. They used US beef for this and you can ask for how you'd like it cooked!

You can also get it in ala carte for IDR 295K!

OKU CHIRASHI DON
Though the rice in this one is not as many as the Truffle Gyu Don, there's a lot of sashimi variant in this! I'm drooling just by looking at it. Also the best Chirashi I've ever tasted! It's leaning more to the sweet side and there's also uni in it, total love!

As an ala carte, this will cost IDR 495K. So which one will you pick? Truffle Gyu Don or Oku Chirashi Don? :p If it's according to the price, I'd go with the chirashi but not everyone likes raw foods. This one's amazing tho, trust me!

Still talking about the bento set, here's the Green Tea Pudding (Green Sunday). In ala carte this costs IDR 80K. It's the real green tea, so expect a little bit of bitterness. Well, sadly it's not my cup of tea, since I like my desserts to be sweet!

OKU SORBET (3PCS) IDR 60K
It melts pretty fast, so you gotta be quick with this!

The purple one is beetroot and orange, the green one is shiso and plum wine, and the white one is yuzu and pineapple, which is also my favorite!

YUKI CHOCOLATE IDR 120K
Dark chocolate and hazelnut praline! It's heaven for those who loves dark chocolate!

That white candle-like thing in the background is actually a panna cotta, cute!

ISPAHAN IDR 120K
A very unique plating as it's like broken pieces of a make up..lol! That pink pieces is rose flavored and the white balls is panna cotta, where the white snow is from white chocolate. Ain't it a cute concept? Be careful not to choke on the white snow though!

The whole thing is filled with fragrance, it's like eating a perfume..lol!

All in all it was a pleasurable experience! Don't have any complaints nor disappointments and I'd be happy to come back anytime! Thank you Oku and Kempinski Hotel Jakarta! :D
