MIONETTE CAKES

Hooray! A new dessert shop has landed on West Jakarta!! I'm always super psyched whenever a new restaurant opened near home and this was a dessert shop to top it off! Well, to start off, Mionette Cakes is located at Px Pavillion, which is a small building with just a few dining spot and others, across Lippo Mall Puri. Usually people just came here to get some reflexology at Nano or fitness in Golds Gym. The downside of this place is that it doesn't have a built in parking lot, so you have to park outside of the mall and walk across, the good news is it's free, which is awesome!

Mionette Cakes just opened like 2 months ago so it's relatively new. They're actually from an online shop that sells cakes for birthdays and stuff, but now they have opened a shop where I can enjoy their cakes! Yay!

The place is really small and since it's located like in an alley, it's divided into two sides, one of the sides is the one with the sofas in the photo below. Its really comfortable as long as it's not crowded or you'll probably have to fight over just for a place to sit.

Yeap! This is the other side, it's near the glass wall but don't expect anything cause there's really nothing below. The table's pretty though! There's only 4-5 tables and that's about it! See...told'ya it was small!

In the brand description, it's said that they specialize in teatimes. They made their tea without flavoring syrup but they actually infused the flavors when processing it and they really take pride in that! I didn't try their teas cause it was night time and tea does have caffeine in them, besides, they serve free water! I, of course, prefer the water, since after desserts, I need something neutralizing.

Their tea recommendations are; whole peppermint, chamomile, earl grey, morning dew, and wild cherry. Don't they just sound fascinating? I'm actually really interested in the morning dew and wild cherry!

A lot of cake choices can be found on the menu but there're only 4-5 cakes on display and they only have 1 pastry, which is very unfortunate cause the photogenic ones are the pastries. Cakes just look like this photo below, which I think is just ordinary. I need more pastries!

RED VELVET IDR 40K
The pinnacle of southern heritage when it comes to cake. It has deep red-brown color, rich and moist texture with wild buttermilk and chocolate flavor offset by white savory cream cheese frosting.

Red velvet has been a very popular dessert nowadays. It's almost a must for a dessert shop to have one and Mionette, of course, provided one themselves and they did a superb job on it too! Very soft, very moist, the color's very nice, very rich in flavor, everything was perfect. There's one thing that kinda disturbed me though, the cream cheese was a bit sour, might be cause they're using lemon cheese? Other than that, it's all good!

LAYERED CHOCOLATE CAKE IDR 40K
As tribute to the most enjoyed classic cakes, we bring together traditional chocolate ganache cake and chocolate mousse cake into one delicious treat.

This was their top recommendation for cakes, which is very classic and most people love chocolate cakes and this one definitely did not disappoint! I can see why they excitedly recommend this chocolate cake! Like most of the cakes here, the texture's very moist and soft with rich chocolate, but not those kind of chocolate which is just a bit too much. The chocolate mousse really helped lightening the whole rich layered chocolate, very nice!

MILLE CREPES IDR 35K
Mionette's version of the ever famous Lady M's Mille Crepes. Composed of twenty one layers of paper-thin crepe filled with light pastry cream enriched with Madagascar bourbon vanilla, topped with caramelized sugar.

For this particular dessert, it has 3 flavors; vanilla (35K), green tea (35K), and chocolate praline (38K). The one I chose is vanilla cause I'm in the mood for something original. The whole slice's texture is really soft and light with perfect sweetness of the vanilla cream, bad news is you can still smell the egg. Though I still prefer the ones from First Love, Mionette's was almost perfect!

LEMON TARTELETTE IDR 35K
Ta-da! The one and only pastry they had! See what I mean about pastries being photogenic? It's way prettier than cakes, right? Not only does this Lemon Tartelette looked good, it tasted amazing as well! The combination of the sweet meringue and tangy lemon was perfect, none of it was overpowering the other. It was a total harmony in every bite that you just can't get enough! Yum!

Beautiful flowers for a beautiful dessert time!

Still am super excited about the fact that there's a new delicious dessert shop near home, since West Jakarta didn't really often have yummy dessert shops. I really hope that many more would open here! I'll definitely come visit right away!

ARANZI CAFE JAKARTA

Look at this new happy place that has arrived in Jakarta!! Aranzi cafe is a dessert heaven with Aranzi Aronzo characters decorating the whole place. What's Aranzi Aronzo? They're only a company run by Mrs. Saito and Ms. Yomura that produces original goods with super cute characters, their catch phrase; cute, strange, cool, silly, a little bit horrible, stupid and comfortable ARANZI ARONZO!

This fascinating place has set its foot in the 1st floor of Central Park Mall, Jakarta since last week and it's getting popular really fast as time passes! Well, who wouldn't want to visit this kawaii headquarter? Even me, when I first found out about it, I immediately came here with my friends the next day! Fyi, we became the first visitor of that day! Yeah, we're that eager!

Even though the cafe is just a small booth in the middle of Hong Kong Cafe and The Duck King, it stands out like a sore thumb with all the Aranzi Aronzo character roaming around! Without knowing what this is, you'd surely be attracted to find out more about it!

Look! Look! They even incorporated the characters into their cakes! I'm dying from all these cuteness! Just some tips; come earlier cause the later, the less cake will be available and trust me when they say 'they'll restock', it won't be on the same day!

You can also buy some cute Aranzi Aronzo merchandises here!

LATTE IDR 33K
I must admit, I did not enjoy their coffee at all. Well, I guess I shouldn't expect much, since this is not a coffee shop, the defect of enjoying good quality coffees too much is that your taste buds becomes more sensitive too less good ones. It's still super cute though, at least they still have that! Who wouldn't want a Panda on top of their coffee??

SHIRO USA'S RASPBERRY COFFEE IDR 38K
Okay, I put too much high expectation on this one... I was seriously eager to try it cause of its uniqueness! Turned out, it tasted weird, there's just a hint to almost none raspberry flavor, it's like they just put a drop of raspberry essence into normal latte. Big disappointment! Hope they'll do something about it, since it really is an interesting menu!

KURO USA'S CAFE MOCHA IDR 38K
Probably the most decent coffee out of all the ones ordered! Well, you can't mess up with coffee plus chocolate, you just can't!

KAPPA'S JAPAN MATCHA COFFEE IDR 33K
Most cafe with matcha and green tea latte doesn't really have coffee in it, so it's really refreshing to find one with actual espresso mixed into it. Even the name is not matcha 'latte' but matcha 'coffee'! Good job for the courage to do something different! Just some tip for those who'd like to catch this on frame, for the decoration of this one, I have to rush with the photo, since the matcha powder dissolves quite fast and all you'll get is a mess of green if you're too late, so be careful!

Love how they synchronizes the cups with the characters drawn on top of the beverage, shows how much they pay attention to details and how serious Japaneses can get into characters!

PINK RABBIT'S BERRY MOUSSE IDR 55K
One thing that's obvious about this place is that, what their selling is really just their uniqueness. For looks they totally scored a perfect 100, but for cake types, most of it is just simple sponge cakes or mousse. Like this one for example, it really is just berry mousse with a layer of sponge on the bottom and cream to create the face. Taste wise, nothing extraordinary, but at least it's not bad, since most place that only sells looks usually have horrifying tastes!

My pink rabbit is flawed! Guess that there was an accident when they put the cake on the plate :(

PANDA'S CHOCOLATE FRUIT CAKE IDR 55K
For the chocolate fruit cake, there's two characters with this flavor, Panda and Black Rabbit. See what I mean by only selling characters? Tastes okay, the sponge's moist and the fruits're generous and fresh, as expected for Japanese pastries!

MONKEY'S CARAMEL BANANA MOUSSE IDR 65K
Calling banana lovers, this one's really perfect for you! The banana taste really pops out PLUS banana and caramel are simply a match made in heaven!! Banana mousse topped with caramel sauce, with chocolate sponge as the base. Really recommend this one as this is the only one that left a pretty good impression in my mouth! Did you notice the cakes are put on the exact same character plate? Too bad they didn't have the monkey's plate!

HORSE'S VANILLA MOUSSE IDR 55K
Darn! They also didn't have the horse's plate! Personally, this is my favorite. It's like a breeze compared to the other cakes, which have more heavy taste even though they're just mousse and sponge, but this vanilla mousse is really light and simple. Another perk is the cookie crumble on the bottom, similar to those on cheese cakes. There's also a layer of berry jam that adds a refreshing taste into the sweet treat. Perfect!

BANANA MILK SPECIAL IDR 43K
Going bananas over this one, literally! The banana taste was really strong so I don't recommend it to those who doesn't like banana flavored beverages. I'm guessing they mixed some nuts into it since they garnished it with nuts, even if they did, it probably got overwhelmed by the banana, cause it was all I could taste. I didn't try to much of it though, I'm not such a big fan of bananas, this was my friend's, but he said it's good, so it must've been perfect for banana lovers!

I know you guys might've been shocked with the price, I admit, 60K for a cake is a bit too much, no matter how cute they are, but the good news is, the cake is HUGE! Well, not a whole cake huge, but it's big enough for a piece of cake, so it was worth it! I suggest you to not get tempted to order all of the cakes by their cuteness, cause that was what happened to me. There were 5 of us to finish these 4 cakes, in the end, we couldn't do it. There was so much leftovers, that it was heartbreaking...but we just couldn't fit it into our stomach anymore! Consider yourself, warned!

CACAOTE, ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Yes, it's the anniversary of the ever so popular dessert palace, Cacaote! I mean, who doesn't know who, what, or where Cacaote is? Okay, maybe that's a bit exaggerating but you get the point. The actual date of their anniversary is 11 September 2014, anyone has the same birth date?

Lucky us, we got invited to join this happy moment with some fellow foodies! Psst, we also got a little sneak peek to Cacaote's future plan!

Most of you probably already know how the concept of this place can be described as 'dessert royalty'. You're in a castle, how much more royal can you get?

The stairs to the second floor lies the more elegant and mature interior. On the first floor, it's all pink and princess-y, but on the second floor, it's black with a hint of red, there's also a bar. Such a big difference, yet both elegant! I prefer the second floor though!

Cacaote always changes their dessert menu every months or so but they usually keep the favorite ones. This is a bit controversial, since some people would want to come back for what they ate before and to find it gone is disappointing, but on the bright side, they can innovate many kinds of new ones and you can always request the old ones to come back. They are trying to change this concept though, so let's see what the future holds!

For starters, they offer us some canapes and shrimp cocktails while we wait for all to arrive, and it's really not bad! Although I don't get to try all of them, I'm saving my tummy for the desserts!

This is the elegant royal table they've prepared for us, feels like eating with the king!

Bet that you're curious of what's inside the box! It's a box of Cacaote's special pralines, how sweet!

WELCOME BREAD
Every fine dining has to have one, right?

WINE
Why not? If it's gonna be luxurious, let's go all the way!

FOIE GRAS IDR 225K
Brioche "French toast", hazelnut crumbs, poached pear, cranberry sauce.

For you who don't know what this is, it's duck liver, yes it sounds gross, but it ain't that bad. The foie gras here had a really soft texture with a nice buttery flavor. Now, I'm not that much of a big fan of foie gras, but it won't hurt to try and all I can say is that this is the best one I've ever tasted! Love how the cranberry sauce just lightened the entire dish!

WARM CAMEMBERT SALAD IDR 95K
Camembert cheese, toasted brioche, smoked duck breast, honey mustard dressing.

Probably the best salad I've ever tasted! The combination was just perfect, the warm and chewy Camembert with the soft and crispy brioche and tasty and thin slices of smoked duck drizzled with sweet and sour honey mustard. It's a party in your mouth with every bite!

SALMON AND CRAB CAKE IDR 95K
Celery and apple remoulade, roasted pepper sauce, mesclun salad.

Great texture, crispy on the outside and soft inside! This beautiful fishcake was accompanied with fresh mesclun salad, which is a salad mix of assorted small, young salad leaves, soaked in perfectly made roasted pepper sauce, a very versatile sauce, perfect for the fishcake AND salad! Finally, to top all the taste off, a celery and apple remoulade. Perfect!

SEARED SCALLOP IDR 235K
Butternut squash, spinach puree, sage crumbs, brown butter.

I don't know what they did to this scallop but it was simply heaven! The bounciness of the scallop was just perfect and the seasoning and toppings was so amazing, that you knew the plate's gonna be empty in a blink of an eye and you'll just be left wanting more!

FOUR CHEESE PIZZA IDR 120K
Gorgonzola, taleggio, mozzarella, grana padano, caramelized onion.

The risk of having a pizza with only cheese as their toppings is that it'll taste too salty, which is what happened to this one. Nevertheless, if you like cheese and salty foods, this is perfect for you! I also think it was still yummy despite the saltiness!

PORTABELLA PIZZA IDR 95K
Bocconcini, mushroom puree, white truffle oil.

They use Bocconcini as their cheese base which gave the pizza a unique taste. The mushroom was really generous and you can really taste it, since they did use mushrooms puree PLUS slices of actual mushrooms and don't forget the sweet smell of truffle oil! Love how crispy all the pizza here was!

SMOKED DUCK PIZZA IDR 110K
Braised duck, smoked duck breast, roasted pepper, ricotta cheese.

A well-balanced pizza's what this is! The saltiness of the cheese and duck was able to be reduced just a bit by the salads. Also, it's the first time I saw a pizza with lettuce and other salad leaves as a topping and I think was actually good!

PAN-ROASTED CHICKEN IDR 115K
Piperade puree, baby vegetables, soft quail egg, chicken jus.

Piperade puree is always perfect for chickens! The plating's really pretty with the bright colors of veggies and quail eggs mixed with the delicious brown color of the chicken and jus, which I think made it 100% more appetizing. That is how a good plating is supposed to do and not only looks but this also taste delicious!

ENTRECOTE BORDELAISE IDR 295K
200g US prime striploin, grilled king oyster mushroom, rosemary potato espuma.

Even though it looked very simple, the taste's actually incredible! Of course, as expected of the prime striploin, also their king oyster mushroom, nothing can go wrong with this one. Look at those beautiful medium cooked meat, super tender and juicy and the rosemary potato espuma was really nice!

SALMON IDR 155K
Pan-seared, white clams, braised fennel, sauteed spinach, chives beurre blanc.

The chives beurre blanc was too watery in my opinion, but other than that everything else was perfect! Though I'm not a big fan of cooked salmon, this one was able to impress me a bit, so I guess that's good! The clams're also fresh without any fishy smell!

BLACK ANGUS TENDERLOIN IDR 350K
Potato rosti, creamed spinach, perigueux sauce, charred baby leeks.
add foie gras 95k

It's black angus, you can't make a not delicious dish out of it! This beautiful meat's cooked perfectly and drizzled with perigueux sauce, which is always perfect for any kind of meats, and to add into those perfection, foie gras can also be added into this dish. Just looking at the color of that tenderloin makes me drool!

ROASTED DUCK BREAST & LEG CONFIT IDR 180K
Pressed confit leg, roasted duck breast, caramelized carrot, sweet sour sauce.
add foie gras 95k

The sweet and sour sauce goes really well with the duck confit and breast. You can also add foie gras to this one, if you'd like. The portion for this one might be small, but it's all quality!

CAJUN WHOLE CHICKEN IDR 250K
Roasted garlic, chili, honey, raisin coleslaw.
Recommended sauce: wild mushroom or pepper cream sauce.

Didn't really get to try much of this one, since about now, I was already a bit too full and was saving some rooms for desserts! But I can say that the chicken tasted sweet and salty, also the raisin coleslaw gave it a nice fresh twist. Though it's not my most favorite, it certainly is recommended!

WAGYU SHORT RIB BONE IN 600GR IDR 525K
Onion tempura, shallot and ginger glaze.
Recommended sauce: bordelaise sauce or sweet and sour sauce.

This has got to be my most recommended dish in the whole menu! The meat is super tender and juicy with amazing glaze seasoning, you'll crave for this day and night, cause that's what I'm feeling right now. Though the price is choking, the quality of this dish is perfect, so I guess it's okay to have it once or twice, even if you won't have enough of it!

PRIME VEAL OP RIBS 300GR IDR 375K / 600GR IDR 650K
Grilled portabella mushroom, tomato provencale.
Recommended sauce: classic bearnaise or wild mushroom sauce.

Although it's not as amazing as the wagyu, it was also delicious, but I'd prefer the wagyu. Since this one is not glaze seasoned, it might be a bit dry, but if you like dry meat, this might be better for you. There're also a perfectly grilled portabella mushroom and tomato and salads on the side, it's a whole package!

MIDDLE EASTERN "MIXED GRILL" IDR 425K
Beef kofta, kebab, chicken skewer, lamb chop, lamb merguez, tiger prawn, spicy tomato salsa.

A perfect set of meat, what else do you need? 'Nuff said!

TEXTURES OF CHOCOLATE IDR 90K
Chocolate parfait, chocolate sorbet, chocolate crumbs, dehydrated chocolate mousse, chocolate twigs, chocolate glaze, hot chili chocolate sauce.

A chocolate heaven mixed into 1 plate! It's the entire form of chocolate that you've ever seen, crumbs, mouse, glaze, you can find it all here. The taste also has a slight kick cause of the hot chili chocolate sauce, I think that's what made this dish memorable. Nice!

SPHERE IDR 90K
Chocolate ball, Cointreau, peanut butter cookies, chocolate chantilly, chopped caramelized nuts, chocolate cremeux.

This was the most cute and unique dessert I've ever seen! It's like a surprise dessert, you crack the already pretty dessert to find more sweet goodness inside! How about putting a ring inside it to propose to someone, huh? Isn't it a good idea?

Had an amazing and fun time enjoying some of the best dishes with my fellow foodies, and also get to chat with Executive Pastry Chef, Darryl Iswaratioso about the fun facts and future plans of Cacaote, wish you luck and all the best!

THANK YOU AND HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY, CACAOTE!
