WHAT'S NEW AT NOMZ JAKARTA

I am so SURPRISED when I got to visit Nomz! It's got a HUGE change in the menu, so if you haven't been there for quite some time, just scrap the idea of old Nomz and find out more here!

Before I make you read and visualize and drool to your own fantasy, I'll give the discretion that this is a non-halal restaurant. Its main character is about seemingly casual food with a twist of ingredients, so don't judge a food by its plating, it's just neat and will lead your palate to the dancing!

Let's begin the FEAST!

PORKY BITES IDR 85K
Well, as you can clearly see it, it's pork belly chopped in bite size, deep fried into perfected crispiness! It's the pinnacle of bites, because once you taste simple saltiness and crunch, you suddenly will see the plate empty just like that, wanting for more. Seriously.

Despite having completely deep fried, you can still taste the aroma of the pork AND the perfect crunchiness. No loss!

POTATO "CANDU" IDR 55K
I suppose they really know the spirit of snacking. Candu is Indonesian for addiction, and these string potatoes just won't make you stop! It's going down to psychological level and I know it's what your palate desires!

closer look~

CRUMBED ESCARGOT IDR 85K.
It's my first time eating escargot served deep fried, in crumbs! Tastes more like mushroom, only better! Imagine the juicy escargot getting crunches outside, with rich seasoning. YUM!

if the looks don't convince you, it's because I haven't mentioned that they come with sweet and sour sauce!

FRIED CHICKEN SKIN IDR 40K
Even without their honey sriracha sauce that makes everything awesome, as a standalone it just has won my heart already. It's unfair, with something like this, how could you fail?

The only thing I don't like about it is the portion. I'm sure I can finish 5 of these plating! I mean, COME ON!

BEEF KATSU IDR 75K
Alright, don't be surprised when you see the portion compared to its price! They ain't putting false advertising since it's included in the small plates menu, but if you're the type to go for taste, then you're coming to the right place!

ORIENTAL VONGOLE IDR 125K
This really tastes oriental. You'll understand when you get the familiarity as it tastes similar to fermented soy bean paste (tauco, if you're more familiar with local language), and this one tastes just as if they specialized on seafood! Specialty in every delicacy. NOMZ!

Some people will say it's too salty because it's meant to be eaten with rice, except for me HAHA!

CRUMBED PORK RIBS IDR 110K
Attention, we're still on the small plates area. HAHA we'll let you know once we've gotten into the mains! While this one tastes REAL good, I personally think it's a bit overpriced for the portion, knowing that the ribs still got its bones attached within the crumbs and meat. Or is it just me and my gluttony? You be the judge!

GULAI FISH HEAD IDR 80K
I actually am at a loss for words in describing this one. It doesn't taste Padang nor Peranakan, not Indian either, more like an original creation but I only could taste lime leaves as one of its strong aroma. Care to have a try on a new taste?

Although for me personally, it kinda smells. Not really my favorite.

PRAWN GAMBAS IDR 85K
Habla Espanol? HAHA! This prawn that is cooked with garlic chili olive oil is just the bomb! Perfectly paired with toasted bread, you get the crispiness and savoriness both!

Look at all these sinful oil though, but hey, it's olive so it gets to make you feel better a bit!

Don't be bored yet, we're still halfway done and about to enter the main attraction soon!

NEIGHBOR CHILI CRAB IDR 85K
Just like our Singaporean neighbor, we eat these with plain mantao! Taste of the crab kinda let me down since gravy was a bit too thick. I'm wondering if it was me taking too long with the pictures though ... !

HOT & COD IDR 145K
When it came to my table I actually thought this was tofu, only to realize that this cod is so deliciously created to perfection. Smoothly plated and textured, this is one of my favorite!

Don't be deceived by its simple looks. It tastes as authentic as it could be, dashed with the best tasting Tentsuyu (Tempura sauce), this one is a mix of mild and classic!

SPRING IN JAPAN IDR 160K
This. is. extraordinary. Period. 100g of Wagyu Sirloin MB 4-6 cooked medium rare gives you a very tender texture and smokey aroma emanating from its freshly grilled stea. Even if it's not spring, it will taste like one when this one touches your palate! Served with  mushroom and tentsuyu broth, unexpectedly the mushroom was a bit under-seasoned.

Spring on both the eyes and tongue!

HAPPY MEAL IDR 150K
Living up to its name, it really was a meal that made me happy! YAY :D

4 pieces of classic pork belly with kimchi as sides! Korean style! I didn't try the kimchi since I was already a bit full (Now you know I have limits too ;p)

Less fatty, more crunchy. Hands downnnnn!

So these are all the small plates! They're actually created with the idea of dish sharing, which is originated from our Asian culture, so that everyone can try a bit of everything with many options to choose from!

AUTUMN IN JAPAN IDR 175K
The same wagyu sirloin MB 4-6 served together with katsuobushi (made from fish, usually found as takoyaki's topping!) which is fermented smoked skipjack tuna. Rich!

Spring was more my season, but this one is more aromatic thanks to its katsuobushi!

So are we on the main course? not yet HAHAHAHAHA. Yeah yeah we got rice, but it comes in small plates. It's called:

FROM HAINAN IDR 70K.
Actually, it's the price for the chicken only, excluding the hainan steamed rice. Apparently, every side dish such as kimchi on pork belly (IDR 40K) as well as sama mantou on chili crab (IDR 12K) has their own additional price.

Clean breast looks plain and bland, isn't it? You'll change your mind after eating it with shrimp paste chili oil underneath. Savory and oily! TASTY!

BEEF SATAY WITH PEANUT SAUCE IDR 65K
Despite its unit price being 13k and comes in mini size, it actually tastes great! Beef satay got really flavorful taste and complex peanut sauce, unlike the conservative peanut and soy sauce you get to taste on the street food parlor. Also, the meat has already been marinated with spice beforehand. Specialty!

CHICKEN MOUSSE RAVIOLI IDR 45K
This one kinda let me down as I didn't get enough stuffing and therefore a bit bland, even after I put some chili oil on it.

NOW WE'RE FINALLY ON THE MAIN COURSE!!! ..Portion does not make that much of a difference, ey?

LOKAL TERI SALAD IDR 65K.
It actually tastes more like pickle, except that they accentuate the flavor with anchovies and raw vegetables.

It's a pro and cons dish for me personally. Might not be everyone's cup of tea and since it's "local", you might find it overpriced since having grown up in Jakarta, it's no secret that you can find these on the street for much lower price.

THAT'S IT FOR THE MAIN COURSE HAHAHA, no I'm not joking on you! But we have this thing called the ALL DAY BRUNCH..

OLD RECIPE BEEF PIE GRATIN IDR 130K

I saw double carbs, I love. Having been torched as its final touch, the aroma that emanated from the bowl was sublime. A lingering touch to the senses!

PRAWN AND PILLOW IDR 120K
Well don't these gnocchi look like pillows! Gnocchi is made from potato but this is as chewy as rice tteokpokki. Prawn bisque sauce makes you taste the sea from the first bite, and while people can confuse it being smelly, to me personally the smell of sea is nowhere near stinky!

We're coming to a close with SQUID INK PASTA IDR 125K
Cooked with white wine reduction, seasoning was really well executed, especially when it's combined with squid ink and clams! However, it came to me under-cooked, not al dente as expected. I'm personally fine with hard texture, but I'm sure it's not what everyone thinks!

Still tastes so good despite everything though!

IT'S A WRAP FOLKS! I personally was pleased with the overall experience as Nomz always renews their concept and brings us to an entirely new culinary experience! Boring is never on the menu and I can't wait for their next innovation, especially that they play with all kind of cuisines all over the world. I wonder what will they bring next?
