SAMBAL KARMILA TEBET, JAKARTA

Are you ready for a superb Indonesian cuisine? Yes, Indonesian is known for its vast types of sambal and this place covers almost all the sambal of Indonesia, it's Sambal Karmila!

Brought here from Bandung, they're actually in the same group as Warung Upnormal. The location here in Jakarta is even side by side! If you can't find this place, just look up Warung Upnormal at Tebet, this is right beside it!

Interior is a simple Indonesian restaurant, just a typical authentic Indonesian interior. Clean and neat is what's important and they definitely paid attention to that!

After being seated, you'd be given the menu sheet where you can just tick off what you want to order! The pictured menu there is where you'll find their signatures!

For the rice we went with this 2; Nasi Hainan Ala Singapore and Nasi Sambal Khas Karmila (or Nasi Pedas, can't really remember..lol!)

This one's the Nasi Pedas Khas Karmila, don't worry, it's not spicy, just savory and smells like sambal!

BABY IKAN MAS GORENG GURIH

This is my first time trying fried baby fish. It's somewhat like a snack, tastes like usual fried fish with no bone, yay! Goes perfectly well with the Sambal Pedas Manis Si Mbak or maybe I'm just biased as I love this sambal the most..lol!

SAYUR ASEM SEDEP

Such a comfort food this is! It's like what you'd eat at home and I love that it has a strong taste, just like how Indonesian food is supposed to be. Daring with flavor!

KULIT GORENG NYOSS
This is definitely drugged..lol, just kidding. But it does make you addicted to it. It's super crispy and tasty, especially when dipped into any sambal. Any sambal!

KOL GORENG MENTEGA DUNIAWI
If you love the usual kol goreng, then this must be your cup of tea! The oil is doubled tho, since they add butter into it, so after it's fried, it's smothered with butter..so good, yet so guilty!

AYAM GORENG MELTED MOZZARELLA
The chicken here is mashed down, so you can just eat it without having to worry about bones! I don't really know if it's because I had too many sambal already or is this actually spicy. I think it's because I've had too many sambal..lol!

AYAM GORENG SAOS TELOR ASIN

Love this! The salted egg might not be creamy but it has a strong flavor. Chicken is pretty tender too, it's definitely a must try!

BEBEK PEKING GOLDEN GURIH

Yes, they also have duck. Crispy and savory, just the perfect type to go with sambal!

AYAM BAKAR 35 REMPAH

They actually use 35 spices for this, showing how rich our country is with spices! This one goes perfectly with the Sambal Pedas Manis Si Mbak. (Yes, again, told'ya I'm biased!)

There are 12 sambal here with 4 levels of hotness! You can see the level from a billboard at the center of the restaurant and it's pretty big, so hard to miss!

This one is my second favorite, it's Sambal Bawang Goreng Rahasia Karmila. It's the least spicy and it's like adding fried shallot with a hint of spice!

Personally, I think this is the most spicy! It's Sambal Karmila Juara Dunia, so if you want a challenge, you should totally get this one!

ES DURIAN GENIT
After all those hot and spicy foods, it's best to end it with something cold and sweet. Plus we both love Durian, though many might not feel the same way, which is just too bad cause this is just wonderful! Fyi, that's not milk actually but vanilla cream, yum!

They gave us a hint that Sambal Karmila will be opening branches in Jakarta and I just can't wait for them to open up near our homes, which is West Jakarta. Please open a branch there!
