THE FAT PIG PLUIT

Yet another pork specialist has landed in Jakarta, more precisely in Pluit! Yay! Can't be denied that North Jakarta is the heaven of non-halal foods, either it's PIK, Gading, or Pluit. Probably because of the market is perfect for it. This place is called The Fat Pig and it's one with a carwash, though I don't remember the name of the carwash, sorry! :(

VIVERRI COFFEE SHOP

Does anybody notice how hot it is these days or is it just me? Well anyways, since we've been really stressed with our final thesis, what we really need is a nice relaxing place and this place is perfect for it! It's a homey little coffee shop at Pluit Timur residential, called Viverri Coffee Shop!

I first found out about this place from my friend, who actually lived just a few blocks away from this place and she actually found out about it from Instagram, which was a surprise for both of us, seeing as how close it was! I stayed at my friend's house for quite a few times, since she's my partner in my final thesis, so we have been here for quite a lot of times already and we just can't get enough of this place cause it's not only cozy and close, as in 'walking distance' close, but the staffs and owner are all very friendly and they're more than willing to share some coffee knowledge to everybody!

This place used to only be a bean roaster and they only supplies beans but after for quite some time, the owner decided to just open a little homey coffee shop for the neighborhood, so here it is!! So don't be surprised that the place is really small!

ICE ESPRESSO CUBE IDR 25K
My favorite drink here always changes from time to time and right now, this is my current favorite! Since I usually take my milk coffee hot, this a nice change, especially in this hot day! Little explanation of what this is, it's espresso made into an ice cube and it's going to be poured with milk that has been mixed with caramel or other syrup flavor according to your request! It's really soothing and refreshing to have for an afternoon coffee break!

ICE CAPPUCCINO IDR 20K
This was my friend's order, which just proves how hot the day was! Almost everyone ordered something cold to drink! Lol!

OVOMALTINE FRAPPE IDR 30K
Yeap, they used actual Ovomaltine for this! Though the Ovomaltine taste wasn't that strong you can still get the crunchy feeling from the sprinkled Ovomaltine on top of the foam! For the frappes here, the coffee taste is still really strong, though maybe that's because the Ovomaltine taste was a bit weak but just be warned that you non-coffee fan might not like this as much!

COLD DRIP MANUAL BREW IDR 25K
Okay, my memory is a bit limited, if I'm not mistaken this is what it's called but it's different from the Cold Drip. This one is the Bali, Kintamani, if I remembered correctly and the orange in the middle was just to enhance the citrus flavor! I do admit it was enjoyable, since it's cold and refreshing with the ice and citrus flavor and strong citrus fragrance!

MOCHA IDR 25K
Mocha used to be my last favorite before the espresso cube because unlike other mocha I've tasted, the chocolate flavor in this was actually strong, so it still taste like coffee but with a sweet chocolate taste!

MOCHA FRAPPE IDR 30K
This one's not really that different from the mocha latte concerning their taste. The only difference was that one is hot and the other is cold and the frappe has less coffee taste, so both are good for different reasons!

What really attracts me to this place is the fact that it's really relaxing here, they really gives off a feeling of 'it's okay to be lazy here' and since it's not a fancy coffee shop, I don't really need to care about what I wear and how I look, no one's judging, the only thing people care about here is getting some coffee! Another reason is of course, if you hadn't notice is the very affordable price! When I asked the owner about their pricing, he casually said that it's just how it's supposed to be priced. I know I'll be coming back here soon whenever I'm in the neighborhood!

YAMAGOYA RAMEN

Who said the ramen craze is over?? We were dazed by the existence (and competition) emerging new ramen brands in Jakarta nowadays. Think that there's no more space for the competition? Now opens another international ramen brand in Baywalk Mall: Yamagoya Ramen!

If you noticed, it existed before in Thamrin Nine building and was closed around a year ago. Apparently, there was a change in ownership and now the new owners are bringing back the franchise to Jakarta as the exclusive holder for the right. This place is the first one to open in Jakarta after the closure in Thamrin Nine!

They certainly want to keep the ambiance authentic: not only they write off everything in Japanese kanji that I know nothing about, the waitresses also always murmur something in Japanese (which I don't think they understand either! I'm certain that they memorized the script :p)

There's not much in the interior, since it's taking place in a mall, the space is mostly only this corridor long. On the other side of that glass is the open kitchen where you can freely watch the cooks do their job for you!

Kinda love this ornament since it gives off the feeling of actually going to an authentic ramen shop in Japan (or even better, it actually make me imagine going to a street ramen cart!)

Essential seasonings of Japanese cuisine: chili pepper, sesame seeds, chili oil, and pepper! They didn't have fresh garlic though, but it's okay, not a big fan of it anyway.. On to the taste!

KAKUNI CHA SHU IDR 39k
This side dish is SO heavenly!!! ...wait! I haven't even introduced anything to you and I was too excited in bringing you the news! Sorry for the early spoiler! This is a plate of pork belly cut in thick (yeah!) slices, grilled and marinated in sweet soyu. It's a bit crunchy on the surface, like caramel glazed as a result of grilling with sweet sauce and of course the tender, smooth part of the inside that gives you heaven!

BLACK GARLIC RAMEN IDR 55k
Unique stuff! That's the first thing that came to mind when I was thinking which ramen to order! Since I was a bit uninterested with just the usual stuff, I tried this black one instead! Not sure if they used squid ink or not, but as its name suggests, its strong with garlic aroma and flavor with pork broth as its base. I think it has a very good flavor, but the texture of the noodles were a bit too soft, expecting a bit more chewiness. Delicious, but not extraordinary.

CHA SHU RAMEN IDR 63k

The visual tells you everything: it lives up to its name! Totally abundant of chashu with such a reasonable price, I think this is a winner for chashu ramen lovers as I've never gotten more portion in any other ramen shops. Only complain was that the soup broth was too strong for me. But hey, the owner was there and he told us he'll work on the recipe so let's just give it another chance!

TONKATSU IDR 45k

Now for another classic side dish to the ramen. We were hungry so a simple gyoza wouldn't suffice, so here it is: pork katsu! Served with classic tonkatsu sauce that's similar to Worcestershire. It tastes good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The batter was too thick, maybe it reduces the crunchiness and also resulting to a rather overcooked pork that lost its best tenderness.

Overall verdict? Since the owner told us beforehand that they're "still improving" on the flavor, I guess they weren't at their best form yet. Still, I do think that this place could be promising and expecting a real improvement. They do need to though, to be another potent contender in Jakarta's ramen market!
